Mr. Abdul-Jabbar went on to play in the National Basketball Association for 20 years and is the NBA’s All-Time Leading Scorer. He earned his spot in the NBA Hall of Fame and was named Sports Illustrated’s #1 greatest college basketball player of all time.
Since retiring from the NBA, Mr. Abdul-Jabbar has written several New York Times best-sellers and serves as a columnist for Esquire, ESPN, and the Huffington Post. President Barack Obama honored him in 2011 as the Abraham Lincoln Medal.
