Executive Orders and CMS Recommendation

Executive Orders and CMS Recommendation

Throughout this pandemic, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has issued guidance surrounding elective/non-essential procedures and the COVID-19 response. In addition, many states have issued executive orders requiring the postponement of elective surgeries in ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs). Similar to the CMS guidance on adult elective surgeries, many of these states have included exceptions to the executive order which will allow for ASCs to continue treating certain patient populations. These exceptions tend to include but are not limited to evaluation of long-term harm to patients if procedures are delayed, neurologic deficits, and other. Be sure to review your state’s Gubernatorial executive order to evaluate the opportunity that exists for you to continue treating patients. National Medical’s Regulatory Affairs team is available to you if you require additional information.
